DIPLOMA IN REGISTERED GENERAL NURSING

The prevalent high patient to nurse ratio warrants the need to train more nurses. The Public Sector has not enough Institutions to train nurses to meet the national requirement. This has necessitated the Private Sector Institutions training more nurses to augment the Public Sector in the spirit of Public-Private partnership. Central College offers an opportunity to improve the situation by training humane and competent polyvalent General Nurses to practise professional nursing in various health settings in this country and beyond.

Mission
The CCST Nursing programme will prepare students to provide high quality patient and health care services. Cardinal to the programme is a dedication to inculcate in our students and department the values and skills necessary for the pursuit of life-long learning and dedication to community service.

Goals
Our graduates will possess clinical and technical competence and skills necessary for the practice of professional nurse, utilizing practice-based learning and understanding that the professional nurse is an in integral member of the health care team.
The programme will produce highly knowledgeable, skilled compassionate nurses to help meet the biophycosocial health needs of the Society. CCST graduates will conduct themselves in a professional manner, utilize appropriate inter personal language, personal integrity and an attitude of respect for self and others.

Aims:
Generally, the aim of the programme is to train students to become competent nurses who assist those persons that are responsible for facilitating the maintenance of health, the improvement of health status, the prevention of illness, and the alleviation of illness.

Specifically it aims at the following:
• Prepare a cadre of nurses employable for delivering of quality nursing services to all age groups
• Produce polyvalent nurses with comprehensive academic education in nursing
• Strengthen nursing practice at the community and national years
• Develop a nursing research capacity among nurses
• Prepare graduates for admission onto general nursing register of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana

Specific Objectives of the Programme:

Upon completion of the Nursing Programme, Graduates will:
• Demonstrate ability to deliver quality nursing care to all ages.
• Demonstrate appropriate rapport patients/clients and families, as well as other health care workers.
• Demonstrate proficiency in performing required, skills, tasks and procedures.
• Deliver nursing care in a humane in a humane environment.
• Demonstrate professional integrity, and respect for clients/patients and others.
• Protect the confidentiality and trust of clients/patients at all times.
• Demonstrate proficiency in the use of evidence-based nursing in decision making.
Demonstrate competency in the use of the Nursing process to deliver quality nursing care.
